Alevia Summer School 2024 for Research and Development Managers – Building a Functional Administration

From August 20th to 22nd, 2024, we participated in the Alevia Summer School 2024 for Research and Development Managers, subtitled "Building a Functional Administration." The event was dedicated to managers and administrators of research projects across various types of organizations, offering a unique opportunity to deepen professional knowledge and establish valuable contacts.

The program featured numerous presentations and discussions, showcasing significant research organizations and focusing on key aspects of effective administrative support. For instance, we discussed methods to optimize processes for submitting and managing research projects, which is essential for ensuring the successful execution and outcomes of projects. Another highly inspiring discussion revolved around the professionalization of services within research organizations, where we exchanged experiences on implementing innovative practices and tools that can enhance team efficiency.

One of the highlights of the Summer School was a panel discussion with distinguished guests such as Dana Biliková from the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic and Martina Pokorná from CEITEC MUNI. This discussion focused on current challenges in research management, including the increasing pressure on the societal relevance of scientific outputs and their commercialization (knowledge transfer). Hearing various perspectives on the issues of effective communication and collaboration between the "worlds" of science and administration was particularly beneficial, as it is crucial for the success of any research project.

Overall, the Alevia Summer School 2024 was an enriching experience, providing many insights for further professional growth and the enhancement of administrative support. We acquired new skills that can be immediately applied in practice, along with a wealth of useful contacts that will be beneficial for future collaborations between the Czech University of Life Sciences (CZU) and other research organizations.
